Group Manager of Exams

Lead Compliance. Drive Innovation. Shape Strategy.

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Group Manager of Exams to lead and develop our Exams function across Peterborough College and Stamford College.

This is more than an operational Exams role. We are looking for a strategic leader who combines extensive examinations expertise with the ability to use data, technology and insight to drive continuous improvement across the organisation.

You will be our subject matter expert for all aspects of examinations, assessment and awarding body compliance, while also acting as a strategic partner to senior leaders and curriculum teams. Through the intelligent use of data, digital systems and innovative processes, you will help shape how examinations and assessment services are delivered across the Group.

About the Role

Reporting to the Assistant Principal Quality, you will provide strategic leadership for the Exams department, ensuring the highest standards of compliance, operational excellence and customer service.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the Exams teams across multiple sites.
• Ensuring full compliance with JCQ and awarding body regulations.
• Developing and implementing innovative, digital-first approaches to exams management.
• Using data, reporting and performance metrics to identify trends, improve processes and support decision-making.
• Acting as a trusted advisor to curriculum leaders on examinations, assessment and qualification requirements.
• Leading the planning and delivery of complex examination series including T Levels, GCSEs, A Levels, BTECs, Apprenticeships and Functional Skills.
• Developing policies, procedures and quality assurance processes to support continuous improvement.
• Producing reports and insights for senior leaders to support strategic planning and compliance readiness.
• Leading and developing a high-performing team focused on service excellence and innovation.

About You

We are looking for an individual who brings significant experience of managing examinations within an education environment and who can see beyond the operational demands of the role.

You will have:

• Extensive knowledge of JCQ regulations and awarding body requirements.
• Experience leading examinations, assessment or compliance functions within Further Education, Higher Education or a similar educational setting.
• A strong track record of using data and reporting to drive improvements and support strategic decision-making.
• Experience implementing digital solutions, improving workflows and enhancing operational efficiency.
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with senior stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Experience developing policies, procedures and quality assurance frameworks.
